Performance

Some of the machines are described in terms of VUPs (VAX Units of Performance). This is 1 for a VAX-11/780 and was considered 1 million instructions per second (1 MIPS). I have attempted to extrapolate from DEC VUPs to SPECmarks of various types.

Naming Convention

I am using the planets and moons of our solar system. So far I am up through atlas. I have reserved pluto for the PDP8/e, and titan for the PDP-11/40. I just have to figure out how to get them onto the network.

The next several machines will be:

  • promethius
  • pandora

The names of solar system objects and the names of Greek and Roman gods seem to be about the same.
